Bike Explosion! (I don’t know what it says in Hangul but I think it’s something about using caution and bikes colliding???) (Taken with Instagram at Centum City)
It’s a sad day for cycling… The late 90’s and the last decade have been and ugly time for the sport of cycling when almost every top athlete in the sport was doping with some being better at not getting caught than others…
I took this photo at the 2002 Tour de France (with negative film hence the graininess)… I’ll never forget how excited I was to get to follow the tour that year and to be in Paris to see Lance Armstrong win his 4th consecutive Tour.
Pictured here are Lance Armstrong, Tom Boonen, Floyd Landis, Christian Vande Velde, and George Hincapie leading the charge into the first lap in Paris on the Champs Elysees.
I’m not sure why this effort was made to ruin one of cycling sport’s greatest stories…
No one cares if Lance Armstrong doped because anyone that followed cycling during this time knows that everyone was doping… this doesn’t change the fact that he won those tours and it doesn’t help make the sport cleaner today…
The “province” (any province really) is always such a relief if you’ve been in the madness of Metro Manila! Islands, Mountains, endless Coast, and Rice Fields dominate the landscape… This photo was taken in the rice fields of Bacarra nestled between the mountains and the sea on the northern tip of the Filipino Archipelago… It seems as though every Pinoy constantly has a smirk or smile on their faces… They are incredibly happy for people that have almost nothing! Weekend Guide to Fukuoka Japan
I LOVE FUKUOKA, JAPAN! I really do. It is a beautiful city full of beautiful people, and it is a great example of an environmentally conscience city that has done a spectacular job of promoting green space in a dense, urban environment. It is the perfect city to spend a long weekend (4days/3nights) if you’re already traveling in Japan or in nearby South Korea, northern China, or Taiwan. It’s easy to fly into and navigate and has great public transportation.
It is also a city that illustrates the positive impact the bicycle can have on traffic, the environment, health, and a city’s culture if advocated! Fukuoka is no Amsterdam, but it is very close when it comes to bicycling.
Here is my weekend guide to Fukuoka and why I love this great city:
2012 Tour de France Highlights!
The best man doesn’t always win, but this year I think the best man and the best team did! This tour didn’t disappoint (never does)… we saw the rise of Peter Sagan, Tejay Van Garderen, and Thibaut Pinot… we say goodbye to tour veterans like Hincapie and Voeckler! Team Sky truly showed us the beauty of “teamwork” and great leadership. I have never seen the “maillot jaune” lead out the sprint… Cavendish always brings the speed!
The Man… The Myth!!!!
My favorite cyclist because of the way he rides and the amazing attitude and spirit he brings to the sport of cycling! He almost took home a win in Stage 10 of the 2012 Tour de France but it was not to be… But he raced with a “suitcase full of courage” and put it all on the line!!!
